Ottavio Garaventa,debuted in 1963 as a Cavaleria rusticana tenor in Cincinnati. In 1964 he won the "Voci Nuove" competition and in 1965 those "Voci Verdiane" by Busseto and As.Li.Co., debuting in Italy at the Teatro Nuovo in Milan, over ten years after the first debut and starting a bright career.

He has performed in the world's largest theaters, including the San Carlo of Naples, Vienna's Staatsoper, La Scala of Milan, Tokyo's Bunkakaikan, the Rome Opera House, Earl Court in London, The Arena of Verona, the Kennedy Center in Washington, and the Aix en Provence Festival. She has collaborated with the Scala Theater in several internationally important productions: two editions of Puccini's Bohème, directed by Georges Prêtre and Carlos Kleiber, Maria Stuarda, represented after 136 years, and in the bicentennial American Simon Boccanegra, requiem Mass and Macbeth, directed by Claudio Abbado. She also performed Madama Butterfly, Luisa Miller, Tosca, Linda of Chamounix, Ninth Symphony by Beethoven, Arabella, Mary of Rohan.

He has had a huge repertoire of 113 titles of lyrical and lyricist tenor, especially of the Verdi and Donizetti theater, not denying the puccini and veristi roles. He took part in the world premiere of Il Gattopardo by Angelo Musco in Palermo and sang in Falstaff by Giuseppe Verdi in Florence, directed by Eduardo De Filippo. He has participated in some of his works for decades: Lithuanian Ponchielli to RAI, Les Martyrs and Donizetti's Universal Flood, respectively in Genoa and the Venice of the Phoenix.

In 1981 in Florence he was awarded the title of Academia delle Muse.

For some years he has been the artistic director of the International Music Festival in Savignone and has founded with his daughter Marina a music association that deals with young artists. Garaventa was also a good painter, with several different exhibitions in Italy and abroad.

Although not large in size, its record catalog is significant, as well as the executive aspect, for the peculiarity of several titles.

The competition is open to all candidates of any nationality who, on August 6, 2018, have reached the age of 18, up to a maximum of 35 years.

Candidates will have to submit their application for registration at not later than December 3, together with the registration fee of € 65,00.

There is no evidence of elimination, but a unique test, where the candidate will have to present two romances from the lyric repertoire of the period between the '700 and' 900 and a liederistic or oratory romance between the sixties and the nineties.

At the jury's choice two of the three romances will be heard.

The entries for the competition are as follows:

Women's voices: Soprano, mezzo-soprano and alto.

Men's Voices: Tenor, Baritone, Low

It will be the discretion of the jury to assign or not to award prizes based on the artistic and musical level achieved.

During the Contest will be present the Artistic Secretariat, Roberto Mussi, lyricist, who will select between the contest's finalists, performers for works or concerts, from

taking place in the next opera season in the theaters of the Province of Pavia.
